PGM certification: what it tests and which Dehui series carry it

Prüfgemeinschaft Mauerbohrer e.V. is the German testing association for masonry drill bits. Its mark is the closest thing the industry has to an independent guarantee that a bit drills holes anchors can trust.

What PGM tests

Four things an independent rig measures

01

Hole diameter tolerance

The hole a bit drills must stay within the tolerance band the anchor manufacturer designs for. Too large and an expansion anchor cannot reach its rated pull-out load; too small and a chemical anchor is under-filled.

02

Carbide tip symmetry and dimensions

Tip width, centring and the symmetry of the cutting edges are measured — an off-centre tip drills oversize, oval holes.

03

Drilling performance and life

Bits are run on test rigs in defined concrete; drilling rate and the number of holes before the diameter falls out of tolerance are recorded.

04

Continuous monitoring

Certification is not a one-off: PGM takes samples from production for re-testing. Losing the mark is possible, which is why it means something.

FAQ

PGM questions

What is PGM certification?

PGM stands for Prüfgemeinschaft Mauerbohrer e.V., the German testing association for masonry drill bits. Member manufacturers submit bits for independent testing of hole tolerance, tip geometry and drilling performance, and remain under continuous monitoring. The PGM mark on a bit tells an installer that holes drilled with it will match the anchor manufacturer's assumptions.

Why does it matter for anchor installation?

Expansion and chemical anchors are approved (e.g. under ETA assessments) on the assumption that the hole is drilled to a defined diameter tolerance. A cheap bit that drills 0.3 mm oversize can cut the holding value of an anchor significantly. Specifiers in Germany and increasingly in the Gulf and Singapore ask for PGM bits for that reason.

Which Dehui products are PGM certified?

Three series: SDS Plus hammer drill bits (DH01); SDS Max hammer drill bits (DH02); Impact masonry drill bits, cylindrical shank (DH04). Every product page states whether the series is within scope. Our chisels, hole saws, hex shank bits and sets are made on the same lines but are not covered by the certificate.

Since when has Dehui been a PGM member?

Since 2009. Dehui was among the first privately owned Chinese drill bit factories to apply and pass on its own application.

Can I see the certificates and test reports?

The two certificate documents are shown on this page. High-resolution copies and the underlying test reports are provided to buyers on request under NDA — ask your sales contact.

Can PGM be marked on our private-label bits?

Yes, for the certified series and according to PGM marking rules. We do not apply the mark to products outside the certificate scope.
